Circumstances change – that is why we need life cycle management

Application development is best described as the art of using technical solutions to meet business needs, whereas life cycle management is the art of keeping the technical solutions up to date and ensuring they continue to meet your changing business needs. You need both if you are to keep pace with constantly changing market requirements.

Too many people focus on what you do, but in our experience, once you have understood why something needs to change, the most important question becomes: how so we do it? For us, that means establishing a common mindset and then working proactively from beginning to end.

Successful projects need change

A project can be defined as a temporary activity to create something unique – a product, a service or a result. For some, this definition is enough. For most of us, however, requirements evolve over time, and to prevent the original investment going to waste, we need to keep refining the solution.

The approach is analogous to an agile project methodology.

In our experience, the most successful projects are the ones that start small, with everyone involved gradually given the opportunity to learn more, and with people constantly thinking about what can be added, improved or removed, and crucially why.

When it comes to meeting your business needs, we believe in the principle of “good enough”.

Proactive management and operation

Most of our work takes place in complex areas and we often automate critical parts of your company. Our fundamental approach is to use the same experts throughout, so they can build a solid picture of the needs of your company from the outset and refine the solution later. One advantage of this approach is that ease of administration is factored in from the outset and future administrators know exactly how and why the solution was designed the way it was. That is why we are big fans of the DevOps movement.

Accordingly, we believe in involving customers and suppliers in the same team to facilitate knowledge sharing and to achieve the best possible solution. We want to keep you, the customer, up to date about your automations so you are in the driving seat.

In our experience, most people, despite their best intentions, gradually forget about planning ahead. Regular meetings outside the daily routine can work wonders if forward planning is on the agenda. In their own areas of expertise, team members are expected to put forward ideas about evolving business needs, technical changes, changes in usability, etc. The aim is to ensure that everyone sees the global picture and that the solution stays relevant and focused.
